A Nest of Nests

This was a competition entry for a prominent site on a new housing development near Leeds, with a high proportion of affordable homes. What could be more homely than a nest of nests?
The brief asked for something that would stimulate engagement with the community and complement the development itself, while responding to existing trees on site, the look of neighbouring homes, and its own prominence at the entrance to the development.

I proposed an installation of a bird's nest within a bird's nest: two halves, with a "quiet" space cut dramatically through the centre, partly for visual effect, partly to let people actually get inside and experience the piece rather than just look at it from outside.
My proposal wasn’t selected to progress to final assessment.
